Problem Description

My breasts still feel full after pumping, and the breast pump does not seem to remove milk effectively. What should I do?

Solution

Check the Fit and Position: Confirm that the flange or insert fits correctly. Center the nipple in the flange tunnel. The nipple should move freely without rubbing, and excessive areola tissue should not be pulled into the tunnel.

1. Adjust the Bra and Seal: Use a supportive bra that holds the breast pump securely without compressing the breast. Make sure the flange sits evenly against the breast without gaps.
2. Reassemble and Inspect the Parts: Reinstall the flange, diaphragm, milk collector, and duck bill valve or one way valve, depending on the model. Make sure all parts are clean, dry, undamaged, and fully secured.
3. Adjust the Mode and Suction: Start with stimulation mode, then switch to expression mode after milk begins to flow. Increase the suction gradually and use the highest comfortable level. Reduce the suction if pumping causes pain or swelling.
4. Support Milk Let-Down: Apply a warm compress before pumping and use gentle breast compression during the session. Avoid forceful massage on painful, swollen, or inflamed areas.
5. Test the Breast Pump: Test the breast pump with another set of clean, dry accessories. Check whether the issue follows the breast pump or the accessory assembly.
